Los Angeles Against Order To End Protections For Salvadorans

Mayor Garcetti on Trump administration order to end temporary protected status for El Salvador

“America has always been a place of refuge and healing for people fleeing violence or rebuilding their lives after a natural disaster. Ending temporary protected status for El Salvador is a cruel, disastrous strike against that legacy — forcing hundreds of thousands of people already living in this country to make anguished decisions about the safety, security, and wellbeing of their families. This order creates hardship and uncertainty for young Americans who are making extraordinary contributions in the only home they know. L.A. will always stand with the immigrant community, and I urge our leaders in Washington to work together on creating a permanent legislative solution that protects our neighbors and upholds this nation’s values.”
Mayor Eric Garcetti

The Los Angeles region is home to more than 30,400 TPS recipients from El Salvador — the second highest concentration in the United States. The Los Angeles Justice Fund, a partnership between the City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, the Weingart Foundation, and the California Community Foundation (CCF) has funded several nonprofits that can provide free legal representation for individuals facing immigration detention and deportation.
