The Leeds-based band The Dunwells bring their blend of English rock and American roots music to Pepperdine University’s Smothers Theatre at 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 25.
From the pubs of Leeds, England, to an American record deal and a stunning debut album in just a few short years, these four “best mates” have had an amazing journey together. The trendy English band, The Dunwells’ music is characterized by soaring vocal harmonies amidst their rock and roots influences, resulting in a sound that is bracingly fresh, yet warm and familiar.
The English band, The Dunwells is a four-piece band made up of brothers Joe and Dave Dunwell and cousins Jonny Lamb and Rob Clayton. Having spent their formative years honing their chops in the clubs, their first big break came when they hit the shores of the United States in 2011 to perform at the Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis, TN. Their impact was nothing short of astounding, landing them a record deal with Austin-based indie Playing In Traffic.
The Dunwells’ swift rise in 2012 and 2013 developed through endless touring, an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and packed shows at Red Rocks in Colorado, the Levitt Shell in Memphis and the Rock Boat. They also appeared at major festivals in both the U.S. and the U.K., including Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Bunbury, Cropredy, HMV’s Next Big Thing and The Great Escape.
In September 2014, the band followed up their 2012 debut album Blind Sighted Faith with a special 4-song digital EP entitled Show Me Emotion. (More information about the group visit http://thedunwells.com/
